While we were in PA we had a goal to figure out where on earth we were going to live!! We are so thankful that both of my parents have been kind enough to offer their homes to us for our crazy family to stay in, which is great, but we also would like to find our own home STAT! :)
The Saturday before Easter, Keith and I went and looked at 2 houses. (He had been out with the realtor the day before he started his job and looked at 5 or 6 houses, so he narrowed it down to 2.) We liked them both a lot...one had a GREAT deck and a beautiful kitchen, but the yard was crap and I was scared there would be snakes and don't you know as we walked out of the house there was a snake on the front porch!! I went ahead and took that as a sign :) The other house was great!! Great bones, a finished basement, no deck, but that's no big deal...it just needed a lot of love. It needed all new paint, new carpet, and a toothbrush in all of the bathrooms! We decided to make an offer on that house, but the guy was asking WAY too much and he really wasn't willing to budge on his price, so being at the top of our price range anyway and needing work, it just wasn't going to happen. SO onto 2 new construction neighborhoods. We thought we found a neighborhood we really liked, thought the price was right, but when we started going through everything and after I had gone to the design center (which is my new dream job!) we found that the price was getting out of control. They were charging us for EVERYTHING! Want a light above your garage? $200 Want a lightswitch in the bedroom? $300 Just everything was an upcharge. SOOO Thursday came, and I was already supposed to have left on Wednesday, but we STILL didn't have a decision made. We went to the first new construction neighborhood and talked more with them and realized that they really were a pretty good deal. Not to mention we had put a deposit down in February, which locked us into that pricing. (thankfully because as of April 1 they just jacked prices way up!) We signed the contract on a new construction house and we were SOOO pumped! It felt right...we really were getting everything we wanted and our estimated move in date was the last week of September.
WELL...on Sunday, as I was driving back to NC with the kiddos, Keith started getting suspicious about the buyers possibly backing out. (Sunday was the last day of their "due diligance" time period) They had several extra inspections done and wanted us to put even more money into the house on things that did NOT have to be done and things that were just silly...our house is not even 5 years old! As of Sunday night, after lots of back and forth with their agent and ours, we decided to terminate the contract. I couldn't believe it...
Maybe now we'll get closer to our asking price now, maybe it will sell after just a couple showings again (especially since I'm solo now!), and maybe they will want to close as soon as possible?! We are hoping all of those things. The BIGGEST bummer is about our contract on our new house...they said they'll hold the contract for now, but for how long we don't know...this also holds up the start date on our house which also bumps back our move in date...
Lots in the air right now! It's crazy...our house is "active" again in the selling world, so HOPEFULLY we get lots of showing soon. It just stinks because we were so thankful that our house "sold" while Keith was still here and now it's warmer the grass is growing (so are the weeds) and there is just lots that needs to be done. We KNOW it's all going to work out and I say all the time "everything happens for a reason..." Now it's just a waiting game and it means we can stay in NC a little bit longer!
That's where we are now...looking forward to it all getting worked out soon!
