Molluscum and The Rash

So we left the beach on Tuesday night to get Reagan to the doctor because this spot that she has had on her arm for awhile started to look pretty yucky and was really starting to bother her.  At her 6 year old check up I asked about it and the doctor called it "molluscum contagiosum."  (pretty much looks like a wart)  SOO Tuesday night we went to the doctor, she gave us an antibiotic and a topical cream to put on it.  She said to do warm compresses as well to try to get the "goonk" to rise out.  Well by Thursday this thing was looking like a mountain on Reagan's arm and it took everything in me not to pop it myself, it looked like a huge zit at this point.  SOOO after talking to the nurse she suggested we go in that afternoon to have it looked at again.  The doctors were so sweet and said that it looked like it was about to "pop" on it's own, but they could try to do it in the office to start the draining process and I said "yes please."  It hurt Reagan, but she was so brave and we had the SWEETEST nurse who brought pretzels, water, and stickers to her for being so brave.  Again we were told to keep going with the antibiotic, cream, and warm compresses.

After 10 NASTY days of the antibiotic Reagan was finally done with it and HATED that medicine.  She said it was so gross, but took it like a champ.  We finished her last dose not quite a week ago while we were visiting Gran and Gramps.  The morning we were to leave her face was a total RASH...I had an appointment for her at the doctor that Saturday afternoon anyway to have her arm looked at again and now to have this rash looked at that had spread all over her body.  We get to the doctor and she said, this is a reaction to the antibiotic.  It was a "sulfa" drug and apparently that is no good with Miss R.  Oh my gosh...the poor thing!  So not only do we have this arm issue, but now she is an itchy, itchy girl with this rash.  Benadryl has been essential!  On Sunday night she did not get hardly ANY sleep...she was soooo itchy and I just couldn't do anything, which breaks your mommy heart.  I was on the phone with the on call nurse and on call doctor that night at 11:45 and he was saying I could bring her into the ER for a steroid shot, but for multiple reasons I didn't want to do that.  SOOO another dose of Benadryl finally helped her get some sleep.  By Monday her rash really started to clear and by Tuesday morning you could hardly see it.  Thank goodness!

So now she is on another antibiotic and we are still doing the cream and warm compresses, but her arm is looking MUCH better...praise!
